Lindsey Vonn Confident of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of earning a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Competing at the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely.

She boasts one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
