Fresh particulars have surfaced regarding the tragic demises of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
A source indicates quoting a family associate, a massage therapist arriving for an session first raised the alarm after failing to get inside the home. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
When she went into the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then left the home distraught, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Afterward, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now detained without bail.
The person close to the family questioned several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
Furthermore disputed published suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction also extends to accounts of alleged "erratic" behavior by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, about 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would not appear until Wednesday at the earliest.
